Las Vegas Car Crash Statistics for 2022
For every fatality, many more people are injured in Nevada car crashes across the state. If you’re one of those unfortunate people, you may be eligible to obtain compensation for your injuries.
According to Nevada car crash data released by the Nevada Department of Public Safety:
- Nevada roads saw 382 fatalities in 2022
- This was only three fewer than the 279 seen in 2021
- The crash-related deaths were the result of 352 fatal wrecks
Pedestrian deaths in the state rose 5% last year to 2022, accounting for 88 deaths last year—while cyclist deaths went from 7 last year to 15 in 2022.
“We have a challenge with safety here in the state,” Nevada Department of Transportation Director Kristina Swallow said during a recent Transportation Board of Directors meeting.
Impairment and speeding are the largest contributing factors to deadly crashes in the state, Swallow revealed.
A Nevada Car Crash Attorney Fights the Dangers of Speeding
The National Safety Council revealed that speeding kills an average of 30 people a day, with 11,258 traffic deaths in 2022 being attributed to speeding and it being a factor in 29% of all fatalities.
In addition, the impacts of speeding can be made worse by bad weather, as about 45% of fatal speeding crashes occurred on water; ice and frost both made up 40% of incidents; and, dry conditions were responsible for about 20% of incidents.
DUI in Las Vegas also often coincides with Nevada car crash increases:
- 25% of speeding drivers under the age of 21 involve alcohol impairment;
- 40% of those between the age of 21 and 54 were impaired while driving at high speeds;
- 33% of 55 and 64 years old were impaired while driving at high speeds
Speed can cause you problems even if you’re not the one speeding, which is why it helps to develop defensive driving skills in order to be safe on the road.
A few defensive driving tips include:
- Stay calm. If another driver exhibits road rage, give them space.
- Know and follow traffic laws.
- Maintain safe distances from the vehicle in front of you.
- Assume other drivers may have been drinking.
- Stay off your phone.
